Susie Monnington

I graduated from Central St Martins School of Art in London in 1989 with a BA hons; I later got an MA from the University of Brighton in 1996. I have been painting ever since and have shown my work extensively, both locally and in London.

I am a fully qualified art teacher, with a PGCE, I taught in a local Art College and ran the Part time Foundation Art and Design Diploma Course for 11 years and have also taught as visitng lecturer on BA Fine Art Painting degree courses. I have lots of experience in working with both young students as well as adults.

I work at one end of the studio when not teaching, and am currently working on a series of paintings, drawings and prints. Drawing is an essential part of my working process; all my paintings have roots in working from observationan, am interested in the point where drawing and painting come together. My recent work is based on movement; children running after being let out of school, or swimming. I have just begun a new series based on tennis, not only the movement of playing, but also the way that children stand around, perhaps arguing over a point!
